Congratulations as well to 2009 grant recipient Dee Rees, who wrote and directed "Pariah,"

which has been accepted into the 2011 Sundance Film Festival's Dramatic Competition category. The film follows the sexual odyssey of a Bronx teenager forced to choose between losing her best friend and destroying her family. Features Adepero Oduye, Pernell Walker, Kim Wayans, Charles Parnell, Aasha Davis.

Congrat's to 2007 grant winner Maryam Keshavarz, whose "Circumstance" has been selected into the 2011 Sundance Film Festival's Dramatic Competition category.

"Circumstance," written and directed by Maryam,  is about a wealthy Iranian family's struggle to contain a teenager's sexual rebellion and her brother's frightening obsession. It stars Nikohl Boosheri, Sarah Kazemy, Reza Sixo Safai, Soheil Parsa, Nasrin Pakkho.

2009 ASF/Columbia University Best Female Director's award/grant winner Lauren Wolkstein reports that her short "Cigarette Candy"

News from 2007 grant winners Annie Sundberg and Ricki Stern

Their company, Break Thru Films,  (http://www.breakthrufilms.org) recently moved its office to West 28th Street in Manhattan and is working on several television projects including a two-hour special for the History Channel and a semi scripted comedy in development with Planet Green / Discovery. "Joan Rivers - A Piece of Work" (http://www.joanriversapieceofwork.com) (2010) which the pair co-directed, Ricki Stern, is now on VOD and will be released December 7th on DVD following a very successful theatrical release by IFC. Their new project "Burma Soldier" (http://www.breakthrufilms.org/burma-soldier)  recently premiered at Sheffield DocFest and is playing at IDFA 2010, and will be broadcast on HBO in May 2011.  Recent commerical projects include PSAs for the Human Rights Campaign for New York Marriage Equality (http://www.breakthrufilms.org/commercials). The filmmaking team will soon be announcing their next feature documentary.

whose film "Codependent Lesbian Space Alien Seeks Same," will have its world premiere in the 2011 Sundance Film Festival's Park City at Midnight category. The story centers on a shy greeting-card store employee who unknowingly falls for a lesbian space alien. With Lisa Haas, Susan Ziegler, Jackie Monahan, Cynthia Kaplan, Dennis Davis, Alex Karpovsky, Rae C. Wright.
